BDP won the tender to undertake a major redesign of Baldock Town Centre. The outdoor market operates on Wednesdays week and was suffering from lack of trade and it was very spread out. We advised BDP on how to improve the environment for the market, particularly bringing it together and making power available, plus advising on how to deal with the Market Charter which was held by the local Lord of the Manor.
Project dates | 2008 |
Client | BDP and North Hertfordshire District Council |
Brief | Integrating market facilities into environmental improvements |
Partnerships | BDP and North Hertfordshire District Council |
Results | The rationalisation of the market area into one square improved trading considerably and provided the town with a new focus. Changes in the management structure led to a period of uncertainty, but the market is now more settled. The market square holds specialist markets such a farmers markets on regular occasions. The square is also used for town based events. |
