We were commissioned by LB Lewisham as part of the work being undertaken by BDP to redesign large elements of Deptford High Street and its existing street market. The work was very practical as it related to changes that were going to be implemented. We devised a strategy for moving market traders during the changes along with a review of management, parking and logistics of the whole of the market for future planning.
Project dates | 2010-11 |

Results | A move of the renowned second hand market from its historic location in Douglas Way Square to Douglas Way was suggested to allow repaving works in the square. This was undertaken and the traders were so happy with the new location that they have remained there ever since, increasing stall lettings by 11% (to 2012). The redesigned Square can be used for other activity such as events and specialist markets. Ideas on management and layout are being implemented over a longer time span. The study was useful in bringing the Planning and Economic Development Team to work with the Markets Team. |
